Charlie's Phoenix
After 20 years I still think Charlie's is one of the best times in Phoenix. The food served on the outdoor patio is an excellent way to end the evening with some take out. Bartender Jeff is the best there is.
Hot and happening
This is the bar where the beautiful people go, and apparently the place to be seen. Definitely the hot spot on a Saturday night. Two-stepping and line dancing, big patio area (** warning - all designated as smoking area **), and a Mexican hole-in-the-wall out the back. Personally it wasn't my scene, but a fun place if you like dancing and crowds. The shirts started to come off after midnight...
It used to be good
It seems to me that gay bars in Phoenix are getting worse and worse. I come here regularly on business trips since 2005, so I can better compare. Coming back after 8 month I was disappointed. Just the atmosphere changed. MusicDoc: a few warm-up drinks in Cherry? I was gone in 20 minutes. Boring, no people to talk to even, just queens, ladies, trans.... I do not know about you but I go out to meet MEN. And Charlies is not getting much better. I liked it most about 2 years ago. But it is the people the customers who make the atmosphere, the bar itself is ok. Good old Eagles on 32nd St and Cactus is GONE. It was some retro bar after and now I found Shephard bar, 1 barman and 1 woman sitting at the bar, was all what was there. You can close down that place as well!
