HERO Equality Walkers walk one mile for every year Arizona has been a state without full equality – the 2014 HERO Equality Walk will be 102 miles. The HERO Equality Walkers utilize these miles to speak to police, city managers, and faith communities, elected officials and everyday people all across the diversity of Arizona.
The HERO Equality Walk is held in July for a reason. Most folks would agree that walking 102 miles throughout Arizona is crazy! It’s also crazy that in Arizona, like 29 other states, it’s LEGAL to fire someone simply because of who they are. People are not able to live their lives without the intrusion of state government.
The Equality Walk will step-off on July 17th and will cross the finish line July 26th – ending with a rally at the State Capitol in Phoenix. During their ten days on the roads and trails of Arizona, walkers will hit all 15 diverse cities – sharing personal stories and the need for equality.
