"My name is Harvey Milk and I am here to RECRUIT YOU!" Harvey Milk (1930-1978)
This famous phrase repeated by activist and openly gay politician Harvey Milk reminds us of the political passion that started the LGBTQ equality movement is exactly the passion we need today to make equality in Arizona a reality.
In honor of Harvey Milk's birthday (he would have been 84 years old), HERO is hosting the first annual HARVEY MILK PASSION & POLITICS BRUNCH on May 25th at Harley's Italian Bistro.

Harvey Milk was one of the voices that inspired pride in LGBTQ people, encouraged everyone to be true to themselves and embodied what it meant to be a leader in our community. Harvey is the inspiration for the Brunch and a guiding model for the HERO Equality Walk.
The Equality Walk is a unique campaign where each summer a group of core HERO Equality Walkers walks one mile for every year Arizona has been a state without full legal recognition of its LGBTQ citizens 102 miles in 2014!
Equality Walkers utilize these miles to speak to police, city managers, faith communities, elected officials and individuals in diverse districts. The HERO Equality Walk is a distinctive opportunity that brings the faces and the stories of LGBTQ Arizonans to government officials and everyday people. It is funded solely on personal donations, fundraisers and sponsorships from organizations.
The stories that are told by Equality Walkers plant seeds in the hearts and minds of strangers; many whom that before the Equality Walk, they had never met an openly LGBTQ person. The seed has been planted and we hope one day those seeds will grow into acceptance and understanding of their LGBTQ brothers and sisters.
Like those trail blazers before us - we go out to put a face to our issues, a name to our lives, and a reason to respect us. Your donations make that work possible.
We hope you'll have the opportunity to hang out with the coolest kids in the city HERO!
