Boy bar on a Sunday evening

My girlfriend and I went on an early Sunday evening with a straight male friend. Great $5 martini specials (got a martini with the shaker and filled it 3 freakin' times!) and videos on TV, but it was mostly a boy bar. Looked like they were about to fire up the karaoke. Recommended for the boys, but not for the girls if you're looking for other lesbians.

Ok...Till it gets too crowded....quickly

Its an ok bar to meet ppl in and chat but If your looking for a place to sit and chill please go early. Great bar but once it gets crowded....THATS IT, no seats, no breathing room, no place to stand to order drinks and did I mention their bathrooms need some improvement..Stopped up toilets aint cute!!! But its an ok place.

Visiting and good place to talk

Visitng from the NW and it was a Wednesday evening and rather slow. Good place to talk with friends or strangers. Bartender was cute and nice. I as well noted this is one of the few gay bars in Phoenix that has windows/glass so you can see out and vice versa which I appreciated. Strange for it is in a mall of all places.

I visited this bar since the first night they opened the door. The owner was nice and friendly, so I went about 4 nights a week. One year later, I found the owner started getting attitude, so I stopped going.... If you want to pay that bar a visit, keep this in mind... The chubby bartender is weird... If you are nice to him, he won't give a shit about you, but if you don't give a shit about him, he will be nice to you...

Kobalt is, in my opinion, the best Gay Bar in Metro Phoenix. Most of the people are all friendly without attitude. The drinks are cheap. $5 or so for a Cosmo in a shaker that easily fills two glasses. The help is friendly and the owners are sweethearts. Some times the bar is crowded, others it is slower. Either way I have enjoyed. During the day it can be fun to hang out on the patio.

I should LOVE Kobalt. It's gorgeous, the drinks are great, the bartenders are cool, and they have great video music. Why don't I gush over this space? Part of it is personal -- there are ALOT of drag queens, and I'm not into drag queens. They take karaoke WAY too seriously here. The trivia nights are fun, but, again, they take it MUCH too seriously. Neverthless, there are alot of positives, so I can't really not like it. I just like, well, BS West better...so you decide.

Welcome addition to Central Phoenix

When I first heard there was a Gay bar in Park Central, I gave it a couple of months. For one thing I wrongly assumed that it was in the old two story bar space. Well these guys have done a fab job of a "Happy Hour" type bar. Mostly people stopping in for a drink after work. Good crowd.

I passed by looking for someother store.. and this place caught my attention. I walked inside and saw that this is a nice little spot to hang out. Clean and I like the look ...hmm maybe I will come back later onthis week. cool place..it caught my eye.. its not like all of the other trashy gay places Ive seen around Phoenix.. this one is clean and in a good location.

Beautiful bar

This is a nice place to visit. If you're from out of town and by yourself dont expect a big greeting here. Pretty cliquish. Kind of an awkward layout. Love the patio. Crowd was stand-offish. Great very-professional bartenders.. I was there a year ago and again this September and I have 1 question... ARE THEY EVER GOING TO FINISH THAT LIGHT-RAIL? I drove around and around, and could see the bar but could not get close. I finally made my way there to find it, not surprisingly, empty. It was a Wednesday, but this construction must be having a huge impact!

Some nights they are packed others low key, but ALWAYS great atmosphere and drinks. The staff is one of the friendliest in all Phoenix. Such a variety of entertainment depending on the night one is there. Friday early evenings the place is packed and fun. Gina, Stacey and Bryan - you guys rock! Great Patio

This bar is the most quant classy bar in the Phoenix area. It is located in Park Central Mall, which is historically one of the oldest malls in Phoenix. The bar has great potential and a great atmosphere. Further more, with a sky-line view of central Phoenix; they have one of the finest patios that Phoenix can offer. As young bar, there are mistakes that happen. I believe that in time, Kolbalt will be a jewel in the Phoenix gay community. The karaoke is the best that Phoenix can offer. And last, Kolbalt tries to give Phoenix the latest and most popular music available. Try their drinks, enjoy their atmosphere and please come back with your friends.

The bar started off on a good foot, the bartenders are attentive now, and the drinks are good, and they remember my regular drink. Good job! The old Karaoke guy was good, the new guy is not so good, he caters to his friends andnot anyone else. Karaoke, LLC go away. Otherwise, the location is good, the place is clean and the music is comparable to other bars. Get some really current music, like be the first to pull some things for NY or Chicago.... be a trendsetter Kobalt! You can do it

Down town still lacks...

Midtown Phoenix is still in need of either the light rail to connect these bars. Or a higher concentration in one area to allow a pedestrian friendly area. I think this bar is located in a good center, I think there should be more to choose from in this center. Maybe like Lincoln in South Beach, you build it and they will come. Yes the bar is clean people are friendly, but where are all the hotties?

Beautiful Setting, But Not Much Else Going for It

I have been to Kobalt twice now. I am done. The first time I went, I saw Three Olives Cherry Vodka on the shelf, so I asked for a cherry drop martini. The bartender looked at me and said, "How do you make that?" So, I opted for a Cosmo thinking that would be easier. It was the WORST Cosmo I ever tasted -- so much so that I gave it away. It could have been used as paint-thinner. I returned with a group of friends to experience their "piano bar" on a Saturday night. FALSE ADVERTISING! It is not "piano bar" -- it's some guy at the piano playing background music. No one sang -- not the piano player, and not any of the patrons. In fact, at one point, the pianist started playing "Over the Rainbow" and NO ONE SANG ALONG! Clearly, the place should lose its gay card. (Note: Perhaps no one sang because the tune was being played in a key suitable only for Ethel Merman.) In spite of our disappointment with the music, we thought we would enjoy a few cocktails while sitting outside on the patio. It took FOREVER for our server to even take our order. And, once the first-round was served, he was nowhere to be found again. But, I guess that was just-as-well, as the drinks were horrible yet again. Not one of us in our group of nine thought our drinks were well-mixed. So, after lousy drinks, horrific service, and disappointing entertainment, we left and went to Amsterdam. At least they know how to mix a good martini there.

The staff are all very friendly and the atmosphere was great. This is a place that the Phoenix gay bar scene has needed for a long time. Finally a bar with nice people who work and go there! Nice change. This is my bar from now on.

I was actually right behind the guy that posted that last review when he went to the far end of the bar and said something to the effect of, "This lemon (something) sucks," and rambled on. He was rude, but the staff obliged him. It was the second night they were open, and they didn't anticipate such a crowd after their "soft opening" the night before. I spoke to one of the co-owners, and he said that they just didn't expect such an interest that early on. The staff was awesome. I had been there the night before, and the bar was packed, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The crowd was great - really personable people, no attitude. The bar's atmosphere is wonderful - nicely decorated, nice ambiance, live piano music. The drinks are very reasonably priced. Their intent is not to make as much money as they can like many of the other bar owners in town are doing. These guys sincerely want to have a decent place for people to hang out at and feel comfortable no matter what they are wearing, no matter their lifestyle. It's my boyfriend and my new bar of choice, and I don't think there will be any other.

Nice Atmosphere BAD Drinks

Went to Kobalt last night for the first time with about 8 freinds. We all really liked the atmosphere piano, candles, nice lighting. After getting a table, we went up to the bar to order drinks and were told by the bartender that the waiter would come by for our order. So, after waiting for about 10 minutes, a waiter did appear. We placed our order and when the drinks finally arrived with the waiter coming back three times. The Martinis were all awful. Now I've had great Martinis and bad Martinis, but girlfriend, these were awful. I think you could have used them to take your nail polish off. The five of us that had ordered Martinis didn't say anything to each other at first, until I finally said " Ok my drink sucks" then everyone else agreed. When it cam time for a second round we switched to beer...safer choice :) This bar could be a great place to hang out, but they really need to work on the service and get some help that can mix a decent drink!
