INITIALLY LIKED IT AS IT WAS A SHORT WALK FROM 307, WHICH I HAD A FONDNESS FOR 'CAUSE ITS SEEMY CLIENTELE AND BATHROOM DOORS THAT DIDN'T LOCK. AM'S HAD PLEASANT TARBENDERS, BUT CLIENT WAS OBVIOUSLY SNOBBISH WITHOUT JUST CAUSE, 'CAUSE THEY COULDN'T COORDINATE CLOTHING, GROOMING, PLASTIC SURGEON SPECIMENS WHO WREAKED FROM AVON QUANTITY SIZE COLOGNE. HATE TO SEE IF THEY WORE UNDIES, AND IF SO, WHICH ALLEY THEY STOLE THEM FROM AND THE SUPPOSSED GREENISH, BROWN SKID MARKS TIRES AREN'T KNOWN FOR LEAVING BURNOUTS. FINE LOUNGE IN THE WRONG PART OF TOWN. LOCATION MORE SUITABLE FOR A A CIRCLE JERK!

Located downtown, this is a good bar for everyone. Fun piano bar and they are famous for making wonderful martinis.

Mostly straight now, too bad. Used to be
amazing... Rude staff and bartenders. Security
seems to be all straight and treat the gays like
your in a straight bar. Drinks used to be awsome
now they r horrible! Don't go...

Amsterdam looks more like a straight bar now and it really was crappy compared to like 2007 when i did go there, now these people have an attitude and basically the straight guys will be picking on the gay guys in verbal fights, which never happened before.. A word of advice, Amsterdam, get totally gay again or just go out of business for God's sake.

Drinks too costly. Snooty crowd. Not worth the time....

I know some people think there is attitude @ A, but personally I think it depends ok what you're looking for. It's not a cruising kind of a place. It's more of a "Go & have a great time with your friends" place. I like the fact that there is goodvcross section of people. Guys, girls & all ages. I'm 39 and enjoy the less cruising bars. If you want good service & a fun atmosphere then this is A is a good place.

When I want to go to a GAY bar I don't go to Amsterdam any more. It is still a nice place. A great place to go dancing but not the place to meet gay men. It is also expensive & damn it, they never play the right video with the music playing on the flat screens in the main bar. It is extremely irritating.

Really, this bar is well structured, decor is high end, great music and entertainment, a great place to unwind during the week and a fab place to dance and socialize on weekends. This place is fun and energetic, from one A to another, I recommend you stop and hit A w/ full force!

Amsterdam has slowly been changing over the past few years. I would not even classify it as a Gay Bar anymore. Sure if you go at the right time ie the slower times it is more Gay, but on a weekend night the dance floor is mostly Straight due to the music they play and they type crowd it attracts. I say skip it and go to Kobalt or some other bar that supports the community more.

bar staff? aloof but efficient. this feels like the last outpost for gays who think they're "it" but kind of aren't. TOO MANY GIRLS. and i'm not talking 'bout our lesbian sisters...i'm talking about drunk straight girls in overtaxed miniskirts smooshing their way throught the crowd and being super loud and obnoxious. gays stay in their "pods" at this place and it's hard to meet new folks here. the dance music needs some work

This bar has changed a lot over the years...And not for the better. They have the smallest martini glasses I have EVER seen. They must have had them custom made that small!! They are just blatently ripping everyone off. Pretentious atmosphere that is totally undeserved.

Decor-wise, this is my favorite place in the Phoenix area. It's very pretty inside and out. There's no cover charge earlier in the night (maybe it's before 11pm?). But you need to be there well before then to get parking. There's another night club nearby, and the same small parking lot is shared by both clubs. I've never met anybody there. I wouldn't say the people are unfriendly, but they're not outgoing either. The martinis are $8 and $9. I was there on a Saturday night at 11pm and there weren't many people there, strangely enough.

This place is full of people with maxed out credit cards who feel they are better than everyone else and full of attitude. To bad, because the bar is quite nice and has a lovely patio. I suppose if you like that type of crowd it would be a fun place.

Most of the guys here are snotty bitches that believe that they are too good to talk to anyone. Considering that the DUI laws are getting so bad I just come and drink water but a bottled water that comes in a bottle that looks and by the way tastes like cologne, and also costs 4 bucks.... forget it!

An upscale bar catering to a more sophisticated as well as mixed crowd. This was once the only bar where you could find a good looking crowd on the weekends. Since the opening of more bars in Phoenix, it's rather empty on the weekends. The place is huge, which makes it look even more empty. The first Friday of the month is usually a good time to go. They have a room for dancing (Club Miami), which is particually bad since other dance specific venues have opened. Overall this place has a lot of potential. I'm waiting to see if they can muster up the crowd that once frequented Amsterdam.

I was here a year ago and again this Sept. Will they ever finish that light rail? The crowd was very stand-offish. If you're from out of town don't expect any welcomes here. The staff was very efficient and business-like but not overly friendly. This is an awkward club layout, I like the patio. Good place to roam around but not for meeting people. A lot of posers. I will try it again tho, hopefully when the light rail is done. It must be having a huge impact on business there.

Moved here about two years ago from LA area. Coming to the fifth largest city in the states you would think that this club would be up to part but it's not!
The DJ's are NEVER on point! Sometimes I don't even think they have one (seriously). The club is never pact after 12 o'clock. The place is just not being used to it's fullest! The owner walks around with his boy toy the whole night and the staff isn't friendly at all. One would think with a place like that it would find a way to be the best dance club. Bring in well known DJ's. As well as providing impeccable service to the gays in downtown phoenix.
Save your coins and time and try a club that's headed into the next era. BURN! Saturday nights a must!

I travel and was only able to be at the Amsterdam on a Sunday night. It was quiet, but the scenery was tantelizing and I would go back in a heartbeat. The atmosphere was quiet and casual, but upscale. The service was prompt and the drinks were fine.
They will get my business when I'm in town

You pay way too much for small drinks and the crowd is just ok. The club part is a joke with bad music.

Periscope up! The dance floor mirrors make it look like a submarine, and when you surface, you realize that you just spent the whole night dodging fat girls with oversized purses. I like the "tiki" bar in the back, it's pretty....pretty stupid. Na, just kidding....this place is cool. I can't wait for the light rail. It's fun riding the train when drunk.

this place is so over! the music, clientle, bar is just no longer fun. It is almost like it was a straght man trying to run a gay bar

What a diffence a year makes, which was the last time I was there. it used to be a thriving night club now it's just sad. I don't even know where to begin, the parking if just awful due tthe light rail construction, the drinks are way over priced and the small crowd that was there were high on attitude. Oh and let me not forget to mention the crappy DJ. Hey dj, not everyone is into all the generic anthem music. I noticed that this place has been taken over by straight women, constantly got slammed with pocket books all night. ladies keep the purses home or atleast off the dancefloor. This night was a waste, won't be going back!

It is one of the best gay places in Phoenix. Nice environment and music; great faces. More like a real place compare to the rest cowboy, neighborhood dirty bars.

Im not sure if the building of the light rail has affected business or if Amstrerdam's time has come and gone. It truly has become a relic and believe it's days are numbered. Unless they do something to bring the crowd back. It seems ever since they expanded the magic is lost. Also agree with oter reviewers the music and the dj has got to go.

In Phoenix, Amsterdams is a lankmark. This club originally gave Phoenix everything it never had in a Gay Bar. There was nothing like it before of since that could compare to the decore or style in which it operated. However, in this past year something has changed drastically! The adjacent club which will remain namelsee because it deserves to, has taken the regal feel away from Amsterdams. The rear patio area has lost the charm of an old World garden and now makes one feel that are trapped in an old second rate Beach Party movie with the Big Kahona! In the old days Amsterdam staff provided excellent service and made you feel welcome. The crowd always had that upper crust attitude, but not in a snobby way, but more so in an OLD MONEY way. That is all gone. Now Amsterdams stands like a relic of grand style and tradition gone bad. It is devoid of the charm that made it a special place and unique. Now all you find there is the shell of a glorious past.

Gee I went here over the Labor Day weekend and it was so dead. The crowd that was there was so uneventfull. i agree with the past few reviewers...don't bother with this place anymore. Their drinks are so expensive.

So where is the alternate dance bar? Harley's? Paleeze!!! This is the greatest gay bar to hit phoenix since FARRAH's!!! For all you bitches, stay home or go to Harley's!! Keep the music. (Our Cadillac has XM Radio, Channel 81 type music should be played more!!!!!)

I guess nothing ever stays the same..which is the case for Amsterdam's. What a cool place this was. I haven't liked the place since they opened up Club Miami..the space is just not right. It's just to opened for a dance club. The crowd has thinned and changed. I'm sure the construction in the area hasn't helped. I say hire a new Dj stop playing all that generic anthem crap. Once in a while it's ok but every week. I guess it's true Phoenix is behind 10 years in music comapred to the east coast. DOn't bother with this place.

I haven't been to Amsterdam's in about five months...I can't believe how down hill it has gone! It's sad I guess it's time for me and my friends go elsewhere. I predict it will eventually turn into a straight bar..As the gay crowd realizes the magic is gone..they will cater to the straights..which it already has in my opinion..Overweight straight girls over crowd the dance floor already. Well atleast we'll have our memories, won't be going back!!

I loved this bar when it first opened. I know things change with the times, I was excited when I heard and saw the changes. Amsterdam was "the place" several years ago..now, it's just not the same. There are other mixed bars opening up in the area that offer a better a experience. You can take this place for what it is now, not much fun. I'll take the fantastic memories. One thing still going for this place is the patio..if you are lucky enough to get there early enough to score a table it can be fun. Good luck getting in during first fridays.

Going to have a drink before you start out your night is ok here. It's not a place you wanna spend most of your time. Little smirks everywhere. Oh well, queens will be queens. For the most part part the layout is nice. Promoting the club to a different crowd might curve the "iffy" atmosphere in a more positive way.
I don't know about people feeling like they are confused if the place is a "straight or gay" environment. Well rounded I would say.
Oh, and I love the "tiniez".

This place has changed since it added Club Miami. The layout of the new club Miami doesn't work. It feels awkward. Crowd has developed more attitude-not sure why. The patio though is the best thing. Love the patio area.

The bar is very hard to find, get to and to park. There is nothing going on, the music sucks and the people are anything but friendly.
Could not tell if it was stright or gay. Not worth the bother.

While the bar is beautiful, there is way to much attitude (Queens with attitude). I observed a situation where the bar tender signed someone's credit card and then through the card away, just before closing. When the customer asked for his card back, they told him that he had already signed for the tab and they had already given him his card back. (The signature did not match the customer signature). When he complained, they through him out of the bar. This is not the way you want to treat your customers.

I agree with reviewer about the staright bar feel. Yes the bar is a wonderful set up, very modern. However, there is something about the new dance floor set up that just does not work. I also attempted to request a song from the DJ and was told they don't accept requests. WHAT?? Without us as patrons these DJ's would not have a job. This to me is rididculous, also they are not great DJ's like New York or Miami...reality check hello this is downtown Phoenix!
Also the last time I was there the place reaked of eggs, not sure what that was about but boy did it clear the place. I think this place has bad pipes. The place is usually swarming lately with overweight straight girls hanging on to their twinkee no eyebrowed gay friends. Leave you pocketbooks at home ladies!!

This bar is a claen and modern well designed place not typically found here in Phoenix. The bad news: DJ plays suck ass music and will never take a request----if you dont take requests fine but dont play music thats so 1990'a and anthem like! The floor clears constantly as the mixes suck and usually Fat boyfriendless straight girls abound pocketbooks and all to crowd you out and bruise your elbows every 10 seconds. Just a crowded stand around stare at everyone else waiting for something to happen bar for me. My suggestion Drop the attitudes and play some music that is current or at least play sirius/xm or something am radio would be better than these guys.

We really enjoyed this "upscale" club with a variety of themes. The main bar reminds me of an 1800's tavern with high ceilings, with ample seating including couches and lounge chairs. There is a dance bar that is quaint and futuristic, and the outdoor bar feels like paradise, different music styles play at different areas of the club. Mixed, hip crowd.
So, what do you say?
